Facebook Places and the Future of Foursquare
It’s been a couple of weeks as Facebook launched Places allowing its members share location (coming up: loading the ads that match users’ personal preferences and whereabouts). It may be a while before the mass acceptance, but once Places starts advertising, the businesses will figure out how to monetize from their customers’ geo-location. Does Places hurt Foursquare, Gowalla, Yelp? You bet. Despite how much fun Foursquare is (i am a fan!), the higher volume of location share may still be on the side of 900-pound gorilla. Do the math – [FB - 550 million vs. FS 2.5 million].
