How to transfer your FB friends to Google+

In addition, Don Dodge, Developer Advocate at Google, spec-ed out the transfer of your Facebook friends to Google +, if you’d like to go ahead and experiment another social network.  I, personally, won’t just do it, yet… there  many bugs and privacy issues in Google +, still; I’ll wait.

“…So, when you move your friends from Facebook to Google+, give some thought to how you want to organize them into separate circles.

The Transfer Process - Facebook has intentionally made it difficult for you to manage your friends list or move them anywhere else. There are several third party tools to help you do this and they all work in about the same way. Facebook is also actively shutting down or blocking these tools so you may want to do this sooner rather than later. Here is how it works;

  1. Set up a Yahoo email account if you don’t already have one. It only takes a minute. Unfortunately, you can’t use Gmail because Facebook has blocked it.
  2. Sign into your Yahoo mail account using Facebook.
  3. Go to email, click Tools, select Import from Facebook. You may need to try this several times for it to complete.
  4. Go to the Tools menu and select Export to CSV file. Give the file a name and save it to your desktop.
  5. Open Gmail and click Contacts, More Actions, Import. Browse to the CSV file you just imported.
  6. Give the New Group a name like “Facebook Friends” and begin the Import
  7. Go to Google+ Circles. Your imported Facebook Friends will show up under “Find & Invite”.
  8. Add these friends to the Circles that make sense to you. You can also create new circles and invite them into those circles.”

FB:”hockey-stick” growth of display market

Facebook is dominating the U.S. display ad market, according to data from comScore. In Q3 2010, Facebook served 297 billion display ad impressions giving it 23% of the U.S. market for display ads, from 7% market share in the first quarter of 2009. Yahoo took second place for Q3 2010 with 141 billion display ads and 11% of the market. As you can see in the chart below, Facebook’s share of the display market has that “hockey-stick” growth, which should be scaring Yahoo, Google, and AOL.

Facebook Places and the Future of Foursquare

It’s been a couple of weeks as Facebook launched Places allowing its members share location (coming up: loading the ads that match users’ personal preferences and whereabouts).  It may be a while before the mass acceptance, but once Places starts advertising, the businesses will figure out how to monetize from their customers’ geo-location.  Does Places hurt Foursquare, Gowalla, Yelp? You bet.  Despite how much fun Foursquare is (i am a fan!), the higher volume of location share may still be on the side of 900-pound gorilla.  Do the math – [FB - 550 million vs. FS 2.5 million].
